Pure Wool throws for cosy Autumn nights!

It’s October and we can hardly believe that summer is at a close.  Though it certainly makes a change to have seen some sunshine and felt its warming rays on more than just a handful of days!

The darker nights of Autumn will soon be undeniable. The little ones have scurried back to school and their elder siblings have made their way back to their University towns and cities. We have already started swapping sandals for boots and frilly tops for woolly scarves, making stew instead of salad, and generally hunkering down to enjoy the delights of the Autumn season.

What will Autumn bring here at Boxfords.com? Well, we have again stocked up on some beautiful woollen throws. We have some new ‘spotty’ lambswool throws from ‘Bronte at Home’ which are always best sellers, including this pastel pink and beige design;

And we have also taken fresh deliveries on some of your favourites, such as this pure wool natural herringbone throw;

If lambswool throws from Yorkshire aren’t your thing you’ll be glad to see the addition of ‘Tweedmill’ as a supplier. Their pure new wool throws come in an exciting range of colours and designs, from bright and trendy cobweave wool throws in green or sea blue, to much more masculine wool throws in dark navy or grey herringbone designs. They really know how to design a beautiful pure wool throw in Wales!

However you spent your summer, we hope you’re readying yourselves for a wonderful Autumn. We certainly are!

Pancake Day!!!

Well, if there’s one day in February I love and look forward to it isn’t Valentines Day or even my own birthday (hey, that just means doctors look another year younger) it is the wonder that is Shrove Tuesday, or pancake day as we all really know it.

It not only gives me the chance to make a mess in the kitchen, which I admit I’m very good at…

Pancake mixture

Making the Pancake mix (and making a mess!)

But also gives me chance to use a few new gadgets which always appeals to the secret geek in me.

Heart shaped pancake mould

This doesn't work every time...

But this time it did!!!

And okay, maybe it is a bit weird that when you give your other half your heart, he then proceeds to eat it, but hey, who can blame him, when it looks this yummy!

Love on a plate...

Lemons and sugar may be the traditional flavours for pancakes on Pancake Day…

I must not use the stock... I must not use the stock... I must not use the stock...

but my personal pancake day treat is hot black cherries in a sticky syrup with lashings of traditional vanilla ice-cream.  Whilst my boys go for every childs dream topping of melted chocolate with millions of hundred and thousands, yum, yum!

So don’t buy the ‘just shake’ pancake packs from the supermarket this year, get the flour out, cut up a lemon and make a mess! What’s the worst that could happen, lumpy mix? Well it wouldn’t be the first time I got the sieve out to rescue the day, but shhh, don’t tell anyone….

And here's one I made earlier - the traditional triple flipped lemon and sugar pancake!
